Goodwill Greenworks

When: Sat May 1st, 10:00am - 12:30pm
Where: 1015 Norwood Park Boulevard, Austin, TX 78753 (Goodwill)

The Lifegroup PB&J has organized a community service event this Saturday to help with Goodwill's Greenworks program (info below). Since we will be helping with de-manufacturing electronics PB&J would like Cornerstone to bring electronics from home that can be donated to Goodwill when we go serve. Any electronic goods (working, broken) can be brought the morning of.

PB&J has also graciously offered to provide breakfast as well at 9:30am. An evite has been sent out. Please let us know if you did not receive it and would like to be added. Also please RSVP by Thursday at 1:00pm with either a yes or no response so PB&J can give Goodwill a headcount by Friday. If you are coming on Saturday please indicate if you will be having breakfast as well (bagels, bananas, and juice) so enough food can be provided.

As we've been going through the sermon series "Life of a Servant" in Cornerstone this is an opportunity to apply what we've been learning - through giving time, resources, or both.

About Goodwill:

Goodwill now serves thousands of people annually, helping them to gain new job skills and start new lives of independence. Goodwill works in tandem with a wide variety of human service agencies in order to offer resources to help individuals with barriers to employment move through obstacles within the workforce world. These barriers include physical and mental disabilities, as well as disadvantaging conditions such as lack of education and training, chronic homelessness and unemployment, at-risk youth, advanced age, criminal backgrounds and language barriers. Every day Goodwill assists more than 450 Central Texans through employment programs and other services.

About the Greenworks Program:

Each month, Goodwill's Environmental Business Services processes 230 tons of e-waste for either resale or recycle -- diverting these end-of-life systems from landfills. Revenue generated from Goodwill’s recycling efforts support job services and programs that connect Central Texans to meaningful employment. Our morning of volunteering will include a tour of the Goodwill Community Center, training and practice in de-manufacturing and a visit to Goodwill’s Computer Museum.

Denial

When: Fri Apr 9th, 7:30p
Where: ACC Carey (upstairs)
Passage: Mark 14:27-31, 66-72

What does it mean to be a Christ-follower? What hinders us from faithfully following Jesus as our Lord? What prevents us from walking with Christ in a consistent manner? By looking at how Peter responded to Jesus, we will learn what it will take to live in spiritual obedience rather than in spiritual denial.
